The jewel in the crown

The “Thrace” Collection explores the outermost region of Thrace that charmingly combines the glory of both Christian and Muslim traditions. It is the birthplace of the most distinctive and weighty creation of the neo-Hellenic goldsmithing tradition: the“corona” (crown) belt, a huge copper belt given by the groom to the bride as a gift. It was part of her costume for years as a beacon of happiness but for keeping evil spirits away as well. Thrace is also connected with the so-called “engagements”, a category of highly symbolic bracelets decorated with two rosettes reminiscent of the female breast and destined to boost young women’s fertility.
