The gem of the Mediterranean Sea

The “Crete” Collection radiates generosity. Crete holds a dominant position in the neo-Hellenic jewellery history, mainly because this island is where the island creations of the neo-Hellenic period originate from. From the 18th century onwards, Cretan jewellery pieces began adopting traditional adornments featuring in the rest of neo-Hellenic designs. At the time, Cretan silversmithing was flourishing producing high-quality creations. A typical example is the “cross with botonia”, an integral part of the Cretan costume, which symbolised faith, as well as the human need for protection against evil.
