Cosmopolitanism and timelessness

The “Aegean Islands” Collection carries an aura of cosmopolitanism. Seafarers brought to the Dodecanese and the Cyclades exceptional jewellery from foreign lands. The goldsmithing of the Latin-ruled Aegean Islands was characterised by the fruitful union between the Byzantine heritage and post-Renaissance influences brought to the islands from Western Europe, mainly Italy. Outstanding is a group of gold earrings in the shape of a boat from the islands of Sifnos and Patmos arousing nostalgic feelings that reflect the anticipation of sailors’ return home. Their delicate surfaces worked with the filigree technique and decorated with colourful enamels and pearls attribute a royal sparkle to the jewellery production of the Aegean Islands.
